LEARNING AT ITS BEST
Our mission is to offer students unrivaled
learning opportunities. We are committed to providing an education of excellence that meets each student’s interests, abilities and needs within a common curricular framework and reflects and promotes an understanding of, and appreciation for, diversity in our community as an integral part of school life.
Our Vision
We firmly believe that students are not numbers, but unique individuals with unique needs and learning styles. Our students, a diverse mix of local, foreign and bicultural students, represent many countries and backgrounds from around the world, and help to create a truly international community.
To ensure our students’ success we keep our academic classes under 18, and provide extra support for individual learning styles, while motivating our students to excel with a variety of Advanced Placement, honors, and creative classes. Learning at GPS helps students grow closer to their potential and prepares them for the challenges they will face in the future.
Our goal is to create young adults who rise to the challenge of the modern world. We want to inspire and motivate responsible, engaged students who have respect for themselves and each other.
At Greenacre Public School, we believe that learning should be academically centred, but sensitive to the wider needs of students and their families.
- Knowledge – We aim to provide students with the tools, freedom, and openness needed to understand and analyze the ever-changing, increasingly complex modern world.
- Academia – Our rigorous academic programs challenge students on every level, and encourage students to push themselves to new heights.
- Inspiration – We encourage our students to pursue their passions, whatever they may be. We also encourage our teachers and staff to share their passions with students, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Spirit – The environment at GPS is like no other. Students call teachers by their first names. Teachers collaborate on cross-disciplinary projects. Classroom instruction routinely spills over into extracurricular activities, and vise versa. GPS is the place where excitement about learning and passion for life are cultural norms.

EXTRA CURRICULAR
Bored? Looking for a new challenge?
Participating in extracurricular activities helps you in many ways.

Over the last three years Skool System has been involved in a number of high profile schemes. In Year 7.8,9 students were invited in the University Of Technology where workshop sessions include explaining what Higher Education is all about, student finance and what courses are available.
In Year 8 students were involved in sector led skills days. Seventy five year 8 students experience a full day working with Midwifery, Early Childhood studies, Radiography and Applied dance.
In Year 10 and 11, student mentors from UCS work with staff and students on bespoke mentoring programmes.. There are options of summer schools and specialist talks on student finance, applied learning and university life.

In the academic 2014/15 over 80 trips were offered to students across the school. Some of our trips are residential, the 1st World War Battlefields in Belgium, Water sports Activities in France as well as a week of activites. We also offered many theatre trips, museums, concerts and visits to places of interests.
We recognise the importance of safety and well-being of everyone when on such visits and have a rigorous process which has to be adhered to when students visit sites. This involves completing a parental consent form for each visit. It is important that this is completed in advance of each visit as circumstance do change and we must have accurate contact information.

In general we find that students experiencing success in sport are more confident with their studies in the classroom. Many of our sports fixtures take place after school. We play fixtures both locally and nationally. Our Football Team play in the Australian National League. The sports on offer vary according to the season. Sports Coaches also run short term sessions after school which students can engage in.
Sport Education lessons enable students to take on a variety of roles in order to develop leadership and officiating skills, understand the roles involved in running a team i.e. manager, captain, fixtures secretary etc…. The shining lights from this programme are then supported in our Leadership programme in Years 10 and 11. In climbing wall situations Leaders take on the responsibility of belaying for others; developing communication, confidence and responsibility. The department use innovative ideas to allow access for those who ordinarily would be put off by exercise. Dance mats, XBox Connect, kangoo boots and Zumba fitness has enabled groups to experience a different way of exercising in a fun non-competitive manner.
